Author Erica Moretti will be in conversation with Karen Pearce, Montessori guide and lecturer, to discuss her new publication, The Best Weapon for Peace: Maria Montessori, Education, and Children's Rights.
"...young Madeleine began to receive care and instruction in an institution that sought to address the new physical and psychological problems created by a war that had encompassed all aspects of life—a place in which the discoveries of modern psychiatry, the findings of progressive education, and the philanthropic spirit of the Italian feminist movement could coalesce." E. Moretti
In an effort to mitigate childhood trauma, Dr. Maria Montessori advocated for a new kind of sanctuary, one where children's inner peace may be restored. This approach to education would also reveal itself as the foundation on which society would be most able to construct external peace.
Moretti's book is a grounding in the origins - a fascinating look at a valuable part of the tapestry that is the educational peace movement we recognise as Montessori today.
